Synopsis & Insights:

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is a motion picture that defies categorization. It takes the classic theme of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and blends it with the action adventure of a zombie apocalypse. The movie follows the life of Elizabeth Bennet who has a fierce penchant for killing zombies with the help of her actors. Sent from within the scenario of Regency England, she wades her way through love and society and the undead.

Elizabeth Bennet made a great impression on the audience thanks to Lily James; she was spunky and not afraid to speak her mind, which is a useful quality for an actress. Mr. Darcy, played by Sam Riley, is equally dark and dismal which adds yet another dimension to Mr. Doyle’s relationship, particularly when they battle the zombie hordes together.

More attention is paid to romantic drama and wit of the characters than in its film counterpart, where the viewer’s attention is diverted by beautifully staged fighting interspersed with the threat of zombies invading London. Lena Headey as Lady Catherine de Bourgh forms a part of this ensemble, in which every actor is so good that she is almost overshadowed by the rest.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is another great way to show how fan fiction can result in creative and hilarious outcomes. I wish I could say that the premise of the film is absurd and better suited for a comical parody, however, the film itself finds a way to blend the two genres rather well without gross exaggeration irrespective of the portrayal of the steampunk universe. Thanks to the artistic direction of the film and the numerous action scenes, the adaptation scores high points visually, however, the real best parts are still very much present. Everything that the fans of Jane Austen and Zombie movies crave is here in such a delicious combination.
