Synopsis & Insights:

Long Story Short is a romantic comedy where the presented twist is time which twists the story quite well. The film depicts Teddy, Rafe Spall, in the character of a man afraid of attachments all of a sudden having to leap in time every few minutes while witnessing the greatest achievements in his life in the blink of an eye. Zahra Newman plays Ted’s devoted and nurturing wife, Leanne, who gradually withdraws from Ted because of rather unpleasant time jumps of Ted which show the repercussions of living in the moment.

Rafe Spall is a charming teddy on the screen and a perfect soothing man to picture for his audiences. Zahra Newman is portrayed as Leanne whose care for Teddy’s character and her ability to play the marriage therapist for him quickly fades as he is unappreciative of the ability to be present at the given moments.

The unique idea of the story makes it quite interesting to talk about love, the initial course of development and most importantly, seizing the moment. Ronny Chieng cuts the tension as Teddy’s best friend Sam, while Noni Hazlehurst adds a mystery as the Stranger who may know why Teddy is in this predicament but in a rather odd way.

As Short Story explains romance comedy is strikingly funny and moving at the same time as it serves as a comical but serious reflection on the nature of time and how precious the people and things we should rather hold on to are. The feeling of slipping time has been beautifully expressed through a romantic comedy interspersed with a bit of fantasy and everyone who has faced the issue understands it well. The lovely message of the film and the ingenious idea behind its plot make it appealing and entertaining for those who are fond of romantic comedies with major infractions and variations.
