Synopsis & Insights:

Last Christmas is filled with comedy and romance while providing magical and feel-good vibes. This time around, Emilia Clarke takes on the role of Kate, an almost manic young woman. Kate, who works as an elf in a Christmas store to be found all year round, is very depressed and is also feeling the effects of a recent illness that has made her feel isolated. Things change for Kate the moment she meets Tom who dazzles Kate as played by Henry Golding, bringing hope to a rather dreary life.

Making people empathize with and be inspired by Kate’s character arc is the warmth and sensitivity portrayed by Emilia Clarke. At the same time, Henry Golding plays Tom with all the necessary tenderness and charm that make every scene interesting and pulls emotions out of the audience. Emma Thompson, who appears on the screen as Petra, Kate’s mother, delivers an incredibly funny performance that also adds vitality to the story.

Last Christmas is holiday cheer wrapped in good old fashion romance but at the core; it is a story about redemption, forgiveness and cherishing every moment of one’s life. The film derives its title and also its main concept from the Wham! song with the same title; Last Christmas and includes some George Michael’s fiestas in its track list. The film’s last twist subordinate to ‘Last Christmas’ touches the strings of the audience’s heart in a whole new way thus making it a melodrama plus a feel good movie.

As far as romantic comedies intermixed with holiday charms go, Last Christmas manages to fit the bill. It’s a movie that teaches us all that it’s all right to be kind; firstly, to other people and secondly, to ourselves and that there are still miracles to be had during the Christmas holidays.
