Personal Insights

The movie revolves on Ava’s character, particularly her struggles. And I must commend Laura Basuki, as she portrays quite a complicated character who has struggled, critic continues. The cinematography utilizes digital, 16mm and 35mm film to show elements of Ava’s character adding complexity to the plot. Still, there are those who feel that despite the technical accomplishments of the filmmakers, the film’s impact on emotion was not there.

Cultural Significance

“Heartbreak Motel” tentatively touches on issues pertaining to mental health and personal trauma, which are often overlooked themes in the industry within Southeast Asia.
