Synopsis & Insights:
The Souvenir Part II resumes the story of the character Julie, a film enthusiast who is trying to come to grips with a strained relationship in this story. Honor Swinton Byrnew; the actress has portrayed Julie’s character who has gone through grief acceptance and self-exploration. The reflection standing film also depicts the artistic creation outwards including the collision of art and everyday life.
Juliane’s mother, nominated Tilda Swinton, paints how a quiet strength is brought into the film to accentuate the aspects of family support. Appearing as Patrick, a flamboyant film maker, Richard Ayoade intersperses wonderful scenes of beauty and sarcasm making the film cosmopolitan in sensibility and accessibility.
This part has the advantage of character assessment development and portrayal of the agony of the quest of the young artist. It is quite a long fuse which not many people may enjoy, but for all those who love well told character stories with lots of art concepts and vision, The Souvenir Part II does not disappoint as it continues to tell Julie’s story. It is easy for the viewer to immerse themselves in this world of systematically portrayed loss, creation and search of self where space and time play no limitation.
